Adults, when they get together for an evening, typically like to enjoy themselves by having a few drinks. It often helps loosen up the atmosphere, allowing them to interact and laugh a bit more than normal.
It has long been a traditional part of having a party, whether it be a small, intimate dinner party or a large celebration. Often, games will be broken out during these parties. Seeing how people enjoy both drinking and playing games, it only seems natural that these two forces would team up at points. While anything can typically be made into a drinking game, from watching television to playing cards, some games seem better suited to be paired with drinking than others.
Some board games are made solely for the purpose of drinking. The Keel Over drinking game takes on the form of Jenga, except each block has a specific drinking task labeled on it. Depending on the nature of the task, the player who drew the block will either have to drink or find someone to drink for them.
I've Never... is another great example of a popular drinking game which has been adapted into a great board game. This game works on the premise of the popular "Never Have I Ever" game, in which players start with a certain number of points, then in turn list something which they have personally never done. Every time that someone lists something which a particular player has done, they lose a point and normally have to take a drink. The I've Never... board game takes this premise and, when paired with drinking, turns it into a hilarious oppor
tunity to laugh and learn more about the friends who one is playing the game with.
Additionally, one can find board games which are specifically designed for various drinking games. These can be games which involve tricks with cards, juggling, drawing, or various word games. These packages usually give you a set of 25, 50, or even maybe 100 different drinking games that one can play, usually with a set of all the tools that one needs to play the games.
These packages present a wonderful opportunity for players to compete against each other in a social setting while still enjoying the effects of the alcohol in a safe environment. These games allow for people to focus their attention and energy on something positive and group-affirming, instead of encouraging them to grow bored and potentially get involved in something more destructive.
Drinking games do not have to be separate games, however, for many existing games can easily be adapted into a drinking game. Both Chess and Checkers are popular with drinking games, substituting the pieces used for shots of liquor. When any piece is lost, the person controlling that piece is forced to drink.
This makes the game harder, in turn, as it forces players to concentrate more on the task at hand. As the concentration levels drop, the game will often become more fun because players will make more obvious mistakes and find it humorous. Drinking games are a great way to grow closer to people around you, while still providing something safe and fun as an outlet for attention.
