Spamalot is coming to Los Angeles.

Though New York fans were shocked to learn that Monty Python's most celebrated Broadway musical was shutting its legendary Shubert Theater doors this year, the rest of the country is celebrating as the Tony Award winning musical sets out on a national tour, making plans to hit even the farthest of corners, Los Angeles. The Broadway will debut its colorful storyline in Los Angeles this summer at the Center Theatre Group's Ahmanson Theatre of the Los Angeles Music Center through September. If you are in the mood for a little comedic adventure, look no further than a search online for the play that "lovingly ripped off" the silver screen's Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Monty Python's Spamalot tickets! Joining the cast is Dancing with the Stars' John O'Hurley as King Arthur, who performed the role during its 17 month Las Vegas run. "A little summer madness is a great way to open the Ahmanson's new season. I mean, how can you resist a musical comedy that has catapulting cow, the voice of God and a weaponized herring? I'm glad Los Angeles audiences will finally get to partake in all the fun," CTG artistic director Michael Ritchie said in a statement, as reported by Playbill. The play will make the west coast its home for nine weeks and will be the first time the City of Angels will see the international comedy. Directed by Mike Nichols, Spamalot's casting in its entirety will be named shortly. The play features a book by Eric Idel and is based on the screenplay Monty Python and the Holy Grail by its infamous British creators, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. In 2005 Monty Python's Spamalot won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Director, as it also picked up the Drama Desk out Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. According to its website, Monty Python's Spamalot tells "the legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, and featuring a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. Monty Python's Spamalot raises silliness to an art form (The Sunday Times) and has been hailed as a no holds barred smash hit (The New Yorker)'." Monty Python created their BBC television program, Monty Python's Flying Circus in the late '60s and started a comedic revolution full of skits and sketches similar to today's Mad TV or Saturday Night Live. The series became so popular that the six men were able to create a Monty Python franchise, complete with games, books and films. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was released in 1975 and was the first feature film full of new Python material. O'Hurley recently starred in the first season of Dancing with the Stars and is most notably recognized as the semi-regular "J Peterman" on Seinfeld. He currently hosts the game show Family Feud while starring in several small roles on both the silver and small screen. Besides playing King Arthur in Las Vegas' Spamalot, O'Hurley also portrayed Billy Flynn in both the Broadway and national tour versions of Chicago. Other stage credits include Pirates of Penzance, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Brigadoon and Same Time Next Year.
